Argiolas has firmly established itself as one of the very top producers from Sardinia, the newest critics’ darling region of Italy. Sardinia has followed in the footsteps of Sicily in making a name for itself through producing fabulously aromatic wines from indigenous grape varietals at very fair prices.
Argiolas’ history began in 1918, when Francesco Argiolas planted the first vineyard with the assistance of some returning Italian POWs. But it was Antonio Argiolas, whose great enthusiasm and experience in viticulture set the stage for greatness, buying new estates and setting up a modern farm. In the late 1970’s, Antonio’s sons Franco and Giuseppe reorganized the business in all aspects, from vineyards to cellars. They chose one of Italy’s leading oenologists, Giacomo Tachis, who joined forces with oenologist Mariano Murru. Now three generations of the Argiolas family are together: patriarch Antonio (now 97 years old), his two sons and his grandchildren.
