Château La Rabotine” was built around 1600 by Louis Rabotin. He was a notary in Sury-en-Vaux. He also owned plots of vines under the name “La Rabotine”. In 1960, the parents of Jean-Marie (Alban’s father) bought the castle. They did not have a lot of money but kept the outbuildings (barn-stable) and at the end of the 1960s sold the castle to buy vines and in particular part of the vines of “La Rabotine”. In 2010, the year he set up as a winegrower, Alban had the opportunity to buy “Château La Rabotine”. He decided in 2021 to put it back at the heart of the estate as a tribute to his grandfather. A French expression: The loop is closed. (la boucle est bouclée).
Our Domaine is located in the commune of Sury-en-Vaux, ‘The smile in the valley’. Quiet little town, counting about 700 inhabitants, Sury-en-Vaux is a typical wine village of the Sancerrois, with his hillsides where vines are planted on limestone clay soils.
Alban Roblin started working by his parents’ side in 2010 and upholds with passion the tradition of quality in the family’s 12 hectares Domaine. Wanting to present you only exceptional wines, Alban offers many wines that have regularly received awards and international acclaim.
Our vines are situated around Sury-en-Vaux and the hamlet of Maimbray. They are 80% Sauvignon blanc and 20% Pinot Noir. The dominant terroirs are the ‘Terres Blanches’ (white earth) – limestone clay soil – and the ‘Caillottes’ (small stones) which are more limestone based. These soils are the perfect terroir for our wines to express themselves. We have a profound respect for them.
The care and attention that we bestow on our vines are based on the idea of minimal intervention, and on the continual observation of each parcel throughout the year. Out of respect for nature and the environment, the majority of parcels are grassed over. We work our soils to ensure they maintain a healthy biological life, that is essential when growing high quality fruit.
