Jean-Luc’s dream of winemaking became a reality in the early 1980s when he acquired his first vineyard, a granite hill planted with old Syrah vines overlooking the village of Cornas. Hence the first vintage of the Cornas “Les Ruchets” (1987), which became the flagship wine of the Jean-Luc Colombo wines. With a long stride, the vineyard grows and Jean-Luc can finally fully live his passion for wine by relying on a few solid principles: respect for nature and the different terroirs.
“Les Bartavelles” means the Royal Partridges in French. This wine is from one of the best terroirs in the appellation which has rolled river pebbles which deliver a wine of elegance, richness, and structure. The juice spends 18 months in one, two and three-year-old oak barrels.
TASTING NOTES
Dark purple color. On the nose, Lovely scents of ripe red fruit, licorice and sweet spice. A powerful and full-bodied wine with rich notes of blueberry, wild herbs and lots of spice. Pairs exceptionally well with game, hearty stews, steaks and Italian dishes.
90 POINTS
Châteauneuf-du-Pape “Les Bartavelles” 2015 | Sports a ripe, winey feel, with cassis, raspberry puree and plum reduction flavors, inlaid liberally with red licorice notes. Slightly burly singed alder and chestnut details fill in on the finish, though there’s enough fleshy fruit to soak them up. Best from 2018 through 2028.
