The main assets of Cusumano include 140 hectares of family vineyards set in specific, diverse areas according to microclimatic conditions throughout Sicily; the constant study of the soil aimed at finding the best varieties to be chosen for their specific features; and the continuous research from grape growing to winemaking area. Knowledge of the soils, the constant monitoring of the vines, and the appropriate balance between production and cultivation are always taken into account. Alberto and Diego Cusumano have spearheaded a renaissance in Sicilian wines, garnering international interest in the unique wines from this region.
TASTING NOTES
This value Merlot from Sicily readily displays the potential of depth that the island has for varieties that one would never have associated with such an unlikely terroir. There is no denying the wine’s appeal. Packed with deep, dark berry fruit and hints of cocoa, herb and earth with a soft structure. Its velvety texture makes Merlot instantly appealing and an obvious alternative to similar, more tannic Bordeaux varieties.
