Altesino is a highly regarded, world class winery situated northeast of Montalcino and covering an area of approximately 64 hectares. The vineyards cover an area of approximately 27 hectares, divided into three different sub zones called Altesino, La Velona and Montosoli. The grape variety Sangiovese di Montalcino makes up the largest part of the vineyards, as it is used for Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino and Palazzo Altesi. Altesino has always been determined to produce wines of the highest quality possible; thus, the aging requirements for Brunello di Montalcino are even more stressed in the Altesino cellars.
This is the winery’s “everyday wine”, an idea conceived by Altesino with the 1989 harvest and now adopted by many other winemakers. A blend of Sangiovese with 20% Cabernet and Merlot, this wine is inviting, with a brilliant ruby red colour, fresh, captivating and fragrant bouquet and a dry, flavoursome and pure taste.
Tasting Notes
Rosso has a vibrant ruby red color and inviting aromas of ripe berries and forest fruits. Incredibly supple on the palate, with excellent body and balanced structure, Rosso di Altesino is an excellent value.
