Altesino is a highly regarded, world class winery situated northeast of Montalcino and covering an area of approximately 64 hectares. The vineyards cover an area of approximately 27 hectares, divided into three different sub zones called Altesino, La Velona and Montosoli. The grape variety Sangiovese di Montalcino makes up the largest part of the vineyards, as it is used for Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino and Palazzo Altesi. Altesino has always been determined to produce wines of the highest quality possible; thus, the aging requirements for Brunello di Montalcino are even more stressed in the Altesino cellars.
Distilled Sangiovese di Montalcino grape pomace refined in barriques. Grappa di Fattoria was created for the first time by Altesino in 1977 together with the master distiller Gioacchino Nannoni. The fresh pomace from the company is distilled a few hours after racking in a copper still, using a discontinuous method, with low degree columns.
Tasting Notes
The light yellow colour with golden hues is due to its short time in wooden barrels, which enables the distillate to acquire slight hints of vanilla and oak, without losing the fruity taste typical of a young grappa. Balanced, with a pleasant impact, it delivers all its flavor on the palate with beautiful persistence.
