Azienda Agricola Franco Roero is a fourth generation family winery, farming 15 hectares of vineyards and run by a straight-talking, no-nonsense type of guy who’s just like his wines. Franco’s family has been making wine here since 1894 and he personally manages the whole wine production process – from pruning the vines to harvesting, fermentation and even sales. His passionate belief is that there is only one wine in the world – Barbera – and only one football team – Juventus.
This Barbera comes from a range of hills in the Monferrato UNESCO World Heritage area called the Zucchetto – a word also used to describe the ‘little pumpkin’ hat the Pope wears.
TASTING NOTES
This Italian heavyweight is rich, robust and full bodied. It pairs well with rich risottos, red meat and why not… haggis.
